Public Meetings The Houghton County Emergency Measures Office regularly holds Local Emergency Planning Committee meetings. The LEPC was established to meet federal requirements of SARA Title III. The purpose of this regulation is to protect the health and safety of the public from chemical releases. The Houghton County LEPC consists of individuals representing specific occupations such as firefighter, emergency medical services, and law enforcement. The LEPC develops response plans for facilities in Houghton County that handle extremely hazardous substances.
